Flux core wire, technically known as Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) wire, is a tubular electrode that contains a fluxing agent within its core. Unlike solid wires that require an external shielding gas, many types of flux core wire generate their own protective gas shield as the arc melts the wire and the flux. This internal flux also helps to deoxidize the weld puddle, remove impurities, and form a protective slag layer over the cooling weld bead, contributing to a cleaner and stronger weld.
